Web Radio

The Client:
Galaxie (www.galaxie.ca) offers its non-stop music channels into more than six million homes. Galaxie is the Continuous Music Network of CBC/Radio-Canada.
The Challenge:
Galaxie has a strong and loyal subscriber base through its digital cable, satellite TV and IPTV partnerships. The same loyalty through great listening experiences had to be translated into the on-line environment. It's present broadcast license did not address all music rights for streaming and as a Crown Corporation, an airtight solution needed to be found to filter and report according to new rules.
The Solution:
With over 10 years of experience in audio streaming, the team at LGG had been developing an application called GateKeeper that was the perfect place to start. Its design automatically edits your playlist to ensure that your stream is in full compliance with major label demands. Its filtering software was customized for Galaxie to allow filtering of a playlist and to keep unlicensed content out of the stream.

This made reporting timely and accurate and also formed the key application and database for parties beyond the record labels including SOCAN, SODRAC, and the CMRRA
Going Further:
The team at LGG thought that the next great idea from content management was commerce opportunities. We developed a template-based audio player that Galaxie is able to offer to their broadcast customers. It utilizes real-time data matching capabilities that displays deeper and more relevant information about the artist, album and song, including links to buy relevant merchandise, for which Galaxie receives a revenue share.

And another bonus for Galaxie was an audio player that stayed open longer and increased significantly in value as an on-line asset. Through context-aware technologies, we are making web radio more than a simple stream and is music to our client's ears.
